Questions asked: Apart from photography, what is your other life? How long have you been doing this?
How did you find your photography feet? How long have you been doing this? Do you have other photographers you love? Why? What attracts you to the street and street portraiture? Anything else you would like to add about yourself?

 

Martin Healey is an amateur photographer who endeavours to create a unique powerful image whilst placing an emphasis on the power of the perspective and mood of the moment in time, which are captured in that one shutter click of the camera. 

  

He has studied under the inspiration of Bruce Hart a "documentary purist" with a strong focus on B&W photography in the late 90’s, who taught him about Black and white photography and how to look at and understand photographs. This lead to a love of Street Photography combined with an appreciation of the great photography masters from a bygone era. 

 

Regrettably he did not follow his dream at the time and over the coming years photography fell by the roadside. Over the last few years his passion for photography has been rekindled and his confidence has returned and he loves many types of photography portfolio. He also questioned his need for a large full frame SLR and moved to FujiFilm X100S and X-T1 which has helped him greatly in this evolving journey. 

 

He lives in Sydney after migrating from the UK in the early 90’s and is married with one daughter who is his inspiration and her dream is to be a classical ballet dancer. He works in IT and lives in the inner west, loving the bohemian Newtown lifestyle. He also loves using his Vespa scooter to travel around inner Sydney. 

 

Martin strives to create a vision of his perspective of seeing through photography. The main areas of interest are Street photography, Urban, B&W, Landscape, Contemporary and Documentary. 

 

His passion is for people to enjoy looking at my photographs and making them think, nothing more. He lives for the moment of being inspired by the next shutter click. Pure and simple. 

Studying Black and White photography with an emphasis on documentary has provided his photography Masters which are Henri Cartier Bresson who has captured the significance of the moment. Andre Kertesz for his perception, Evans Walker for his pursuit of hidden aspects of American Life and Don McCullin for his powerful documentary images. 

 

He is attracted to street photography and Street portraiture as it is challenging and the Adrenalin rush of capturing chance encounters and random accidents within public places. 

A strong emphasis is placed on Social documentary photography. The recording of history through behaviour and purpose.
